Burnell E. Olson, 83

Burnell E. Olson, 83, of Lansing, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at the Austin Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 30, 1926, in Harmony, to Bennie and Anna (Storlie) Olson. He graduated from Harmony High School in 1945. After high school, he served the next two years in the United States Army. Burnell married Dolores Mickelson on Aug. 4, 1951, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He worked for the George A. Hormel Company for 37 years before retiring in 1986.

Burnell was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He was an avid square dancer and he enjoyed travelling, camping, card club and loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores Olson, Lansing; children: Brian Olson, Lansing; Susan (Michael) Myhre, Austin; Randy (Diana) Olson, Austin; Tamara (Scott) Duffney, Andover; Michelle (Keith) VandeZande, Austin; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brothers: Arlyne Olson, Denison, Texas; Donald Olson, Austin; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerome Olson and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Reverend Ron Barnett officiating. Music will be performed by Neal Erickson. Visitation will be on Friday at the church for one hour before the service. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Austin Post No. 91, American Legion in charge of military rites. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary will be handling the arrangements.
