The Riverland volleyball team started strong in game one, but it couldn’t keep up with Anoka-Ramsey in a three-game loss at Riverland Gym Wednesday.

The Blue Devils (4-13 overall, 1-6 MCAC) lost by scores of 25-21, 25-10, 25-17.

RCC led the first game 6-5 early and it was within 15-13 before A-R (16-4, 5-2) scored six points in a row to take over.

“We’re great at blocking, we’ve just got to work on running our offense,” RCC head coach Helen Jahr said.

It was even harder for both teams to get their offense in flow as an exceptional number of two-touch calls were made on both ends.

“It kills the momentum and then the setters are afraid to the set ball,” RCC head coach Helen Jahr said. “If it’s going both ways, they might as well let us play.”

RCC jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second game and a 3-0 lead in third game, but couldn’t keep it up.

RCC stats: Stephanie Loverink, 5 kills, 14 digs, 2 ace blocks; Jessica Reuvers, 4 kills, 3 blocks; Kristin Vesel, 10 set assists; Danyel Hythecker, 1 ace; Mercedes Miklya, 13 digs
