Larry William Hoffman, 63

Larry William Hoffman, 63, of Toeterville, Iowa, died Saturday, July 31, 2010, after a two year battle with cancer at Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice.

Larry William Hoffman was born July 2, 1947, to Merle and Delores (Feldt) Hoffman in Osage, Iowa. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1965. Larry was an Army veteran and served during Vietnam from 1966 to 1968.

On June 7, 1969, he married Suzanne Hanson at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin and to that union two daughters were born. He worked at the Hormel Corporation from 1969 to 1987, Banker Life and Casualty from 1988 to 2010 as an insurance agent, and Grain Millers from 2008 to 1010.

He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and cruising in his convertible Mustang.  At home he was known for having a green thumb, growing flowers and vegetables, and for putting on his chef’s hat while grilling and cooking. He thrived when around others and loved spending time with his many friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sue; two daughters, Rachelle Hoffman (Matt Diamanti) and Renae Northrop (Dan Northrop); four grandchildren, Jessica, Veda and Ian Northrop and Keegan Wentworth; his father, Merle Hoffman; and five siblings, Diane Steffen, Dennis Hoffman, LuAnn Downs, Lori Sweetland and Karyl O’Connor.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Toeterville, with Rev. Elaine Siemsen officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Toeterville. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School St., St. Ansgar, Iowa.
