Dorothy L. (Kofstad) Morrow, 91, formerly of Austin, died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Prescott, Wis.

Dorothy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She inspired individuality and took pride in encouraging those she loved to follow their passion for music and learning.

Dorothy was born Aug. 25, 1918, in Cresco, Iowa, to William and Anna (Leffler) Wolfe.  She was married to Alfred Kofstad in 1936 in Austin. They helped raise Alfred’s sister’s children for 17 years before having a daughter of their own. Alfred died in 1968 and Dorothy married Aurville Morrow of Dexter, Minn., in 1970. Aurville had a family of eight from his previous marriage and Dorothy now had the privilege of being grandmother to many grandchildren. They were married for 10 years before Aurville’s death in 1980. She moved back to Austin for a few years and in 1996 moved to Prescott, Wis., to live with her daughter, son-in-law and family of five boys. In 2001, Dorothy moved to the Spring Valley Minnesota Assisted Living facility and lived there for nine years. In the early spring of 2010, she moved to a nursing facility in Prescott, Wis., where she resided until she passed away.

Dorothy lived a long and fulfilling life. At one time, she and Alfred owned a small business in Lanesboro, Minn., and she worked at Hormel Meat Packing Plant for 25 years. Music was always part of her life, whether it was playing her button key accordion in a small band or watching her daughter and grandchildren sing and play a number of instruments. Her grandson, Joe, remembers that Grandma bought him his first drum set and paid more for it than he did for his first car. She loved to crochet and was well known for her beautiful doilies and afghans and she loved to garden, cook, and “keep house.” As she grew older she usually had a 1000-piece puzzle going and worked on word puzzles to “keep her mind sharp.” She was loved and will be missed by all of her family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Valla Rae (Richard L. ) Allen, of Prescott, Wis.; five grandsons, Matthew (Teresa) Allen, Joseph (Melissa) Allen, Michael Allen, Brian Allen, Benjamin Allen; four great-grandsons, Madison, Austin, Cadence, and Carter Allen; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents;  husband, Alfred Kofstad;  husband, Aurville Morrow; two sisters and three brothers.
