Austin’s Thomsen breaks record at Firehouse 50 bike race

In what may have been his last race of his 30-year competitive biking career, Austin’s Dave Thomsen broke one last record.
Thomsen set the record for the fastest time in the individual time trials at the Firehouse 50 at Grandview, Wis. with a time of 2 hours, 17 minutes, and 39 seconds in the 50-mile race. The time was eight seconds faster than the old record.
Thomsen also holds the record for the 65-69 age group at the Firehouse 50.
Another Austin resident, Eric VanDenBerg took fifth in the 50-54 age group at the Firehouse 50 with a time of 2:08:04.5.
