ELLSWORTH, Wis. — Two men died of apparent drowning in separate incidents on the Mississippi River during the weekend.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department says 44-year-old Curtis Allen Golla of Woodbury drowned early Sunday after jumping into the river in Hager City. Authorities say Golla was visiting at a nearby houseboat when he jumped into the river from a dock. Golla was a former Woodbury firefighter.
On Saturday, 27-year-old Andrew Revels of La Crosse died while tubing in southeastern Minnesota.
Houston County, Minn., sheriff’s officials say Revels was tubing on a lake connected to the Mississippi River north of Brownsville when he went under a barge and failed to surface. The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Revel’s body was recovered after authorities used a tugboat to separate the barges.
