Ruby Ward

Ruby Marion Ward, 93, of Austin, died on July 16, 2010, at Fieldcrest Nursing Home in Hayfield.  
She was born June 12, 1917, to William and Grace (Hindle) Kaune in Blooming Prairie, Minn., where she attended rural schools before attending and graduating from Austin High School in 1935. She married Lester Ward on Feb. 17, 1937, in Mason City, Iowa.  They lived and farmed in Newry Township. Ruby was a member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, WELCA Dorcas Circle. Later she moved to Austin where she worked at JC Penney and Queen’s Fashions. She made her home at Twin Towers for more than 20 years where she enjoyed the craft group. She also crocheted, embroidered and attended the Penney Rejects Club. She moved to Prairie Manor on Dec. 5, 2008, and most recently resided at Fieldcrest Care Center in Hayfield.
Survivors include two daughters, Ardell Swenson of Austin and Margaret (Gary) Harrison of Lyle; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Kaune of Faribault; other relatives and friends. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester; one sister, Ruth Pechacek; one brother, Fred Kaune; one son-in-law, Hubert Swenson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 19, 2010, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Austin, with Pastor Gene Leiter officiating. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the church. Interment is at Blooming Prairie Cemetery in Blooming Prairie.
