Melvin Campbell, Sr.

Melvin Wayne Campbell, Sr., 69, of Guymon, Okla., passed away Wednesday morning, July 14, 2010, at his home.
The son of Charles H. and Edith B. (Gressett) Campbell, he was born Oct. 5, 1940, in Woodward, Okla. Melvin was raised in Woodward where he attended the Woodward school system.
Melvin served his county in the U.S. Army, entering the service in 1959. He retired in 1980 with 21 years of service. Following his retirement from the Army, he worked as a truck driver.
Melvin and Diana Lee Johnson were united in marriage on July 30, 1976, in Elizabeth City, N.C. The Campbell’s moved to Guymon in 1981 from Alva, Okla. Melvin was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles and Orville Campbell.
Survivors include his wife, Diana Campbell of the home; three sons, James (Judyth) Campbell of Guymon, Mark (Marcia) Riley and Melvin W. “Bear” (Nikki) Campbell, Jr., all of Sarasota, Fla.; three daughters, Mattie Pauline Campbell and Edith Waynette Campbell, both of Virginia Beach, Va., and Julie Riley of Denver, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, David Campbell of Laverne, Okla.; and two sisters, Neva (Don) Richardson of Buffalo, Okla., and OvaJean Siemens of Whispering Pines, N.C.
Memorial services with full military honors will be conducted Sunday, July 18, at 3 p.m. at the Guymon Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Gregg Counce officiating. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
