Mary I. Helgeson, 85, died on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

She was born on April 8, 1925, in Jackson, Minn., the daughter of Louie and Minnie Frodin. The family moved and she grew up south of Hollandale.

She married Glen O. Helgeson on Feb. 17, 1942, in Lyle, Minn. They made their home and raised their family in the Hollandale, Corning area.

Mary was a member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church. She enjoyed quilting, baking, gardening and canning and freezing vegetables.

Mary is survived by five children, Larry (Cheryl) Helgeson, of rural Austin, Henry Helgeson, of Hollandale, Gloria (Dan) Ash, of Austin, Cindy (Pete) DeVries, of Hollandale, Kathy (Bob) Slegh, of Hollandale; grandchildren, Bryant Helgeson (Lee Nee), of Rochester, Michael (Danyel) Helgeson, of Austin, Stephanie (Tim) Putzier, of Rochester, Eric (Tonya) Ruzek, of Lewiston, Minn., Christina (Lee) Holtberg, of Blooming Prairie, Minn., Laura Varner, of Hollandale, Allison DenHerder and friend Chad Johnson, of Geneva, Amanda Slegh and friend Dallas DeShanne, of Hollandale; great-grandchildren, Gage and Lexi Helgeson, Myia, Jace, Makayla and Ciera Ruzek, Zachary Holtberg, Aubri DenHerder; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen, in 1992; son, Jerry, in infancy; grandson, Jacob Varner, in 2008 and sisters and brothers.

The memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at Bonnerup Funeral Service, 2210 E. Main, Albert Lea. Rev. Gene Leiter will officiate. Interment will be in Hollandale Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Monday at Bonnerup Funeral Service.
