Krueger recommended as police chief

Det. Brian Krueger — a 26-year-veteran of the Austin Police Department — was chosen by a City Council committee Thursday as Austin’s new police chief.

The full council still needs to approve the decision, and a vote is slated for Monday. Krueger would also have to pass a psychological exam before getting hired.

Krueger and Lt. John Mueller have been filling in as co-acting chiefs since January, which is when former chief Paul Philipp retired.
