John M. Wangen, 73, of Cannon Falls, formerly of Austin, died at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Minneapolis, on Saturday, July 3, 2010.
John Maynard Wangen was born Aug. 2, 1936, in Austin, to Edward and Millie (Lerum) Wangen. He graduated from Austin High School and later entered the Air Force. He returned to Austin working as a fireman with the Austin Fire Department. He later moved to Kasson, Hastings, and most recently lived in Cannon Falls.
Survivors include sister, Marjorie Heiny of Austin; brother, Rev. Russell (Norma) Wangen; sisters-in-law, Gretchen Wangen of Austin, Fran Wangen of Phoenix, Ariz., Florence Wangen of Spicer; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Orville, Elaine, Richard, Esther, Leo, Robert; brothers-in-law, Don Schroyer, Ivan Heiny.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James I. Mikkelson officiating. Interment will be at the Oakland Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Worlein Funeral Home. American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216 are in charge of military rites.
