The Austin Blue Sox swept the season series over the Rochester Royals with a 9-1 road win Wednesday.

The Blue Sox (22-12 overall, 3-0 Section 2B) came out swinging as they scored three runs in the top of the first. Kyle Young, Josh Kunze and Darin Wagner all had two-out RBI-singles in the rally.

“We knew that last game the Royals came out and scored four right away on us so we had to score first,” Kunze said.

After getting four hits in the first, the Blue Sox didn’t get their next hit until the eighth inning, when they pieced five together to make it 7-1.

In between those offensive flurries, Rochester racked up 10 hits, and Austin starter Joe Huffman had to escape some threats as he went the distance on the hill.

“Joe did a really nice job of damage control tonight and he battled,” Kunze said. “At one point we thought about maybe taking him out, but he said it was his game and he wanted the ball.”
