Austin under heat advisory

The Austin area is under a heat advisory today from noon to 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Temperatures around 90 degrees, paired with high humidity, will likely create heat index values of up to 105 later this afternoon.

This, according to the NWS, will create dangerous heat conditions.

The NWS is advising residents throughout the region to take caution when outdoors. Spending long periods of time outdoors may cause sunstroke, heat cramps and heat exhaustion, according to the NWS advisory warning.

The NWS is encouraging residents in the heat advisory area to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors.
