The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission will hold a public hearing July 1 on the proposed Pleasant Valley Wind project in Mower County.

The meeting is being held to discuss Renewable Energy Systems Americas’ certificate of need and site permit for the project. The meeting will also touch on whether or not the Pleasant Valley Wind project is needed and if it’s in the public interest, along with other issues pertaining the project.

The hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Austin High School cafeteria, 301 Third St. NW.

Administrative law judge Manuel J. Cervantes will preside at the hearing.

The hearing will continue long enough for everyone to have an opportunity to comment. If necessary, the hearing can be recessed and restarted.

Written comments can be submitted to Cervantes at P.O. Box 64620, St. Paul, MN 55164-0620 until July 16.

The Pleasant Valley Wind project is slated to be a 300 megawatt wind farm of 130 to 200 turbines. The project area is 70,000 acres in Dodge and Mower counties. About 52,000 acres of land has been secured for the project.
