As soon as the Austin Post 91 Legion baseball team got back in the game, they were out of it again in a 10-6 loss to Owatonna Post 77 at Marcusen Park Tuesday.

Mike Tindal knocked in two runs with a two-out double to deep center and Austin (1-1 overall) scored two more run off an Owatonna fielding error to make pull within one run in the bottom of the sixth but Owatonna scored four times in the seventh to put it away.

Mike Sebring had the big shot for Owatonna with a one-out, three run double.

Still, Austin manager Bob Stratton was pleased with how his team battled.

“I’m as pleased as I can be after a loss,” Stratton said. “It’s a good start to the season. We had one real good game last week (a win over Waseca) and one mini-clunker tonight.”

Post 91 stranded nine runners in scoring position, including runners on second and third in the seventh when Quinn Yocom struck out to end the game.

Post 91’s toughest finish to an inning was the fourth, when it scored a run off an Owatonna error and had the bases loaded with one out. Owatonna pitcher Dalton Homeier struck out Nate Paris and Caleb Wahlen to preserve a 3-1 lead for his team.

“We couldn’t put the ball in play,” Stratton said. “That changed the whole complexion of the game.”
