Herbert Petersen

Herbert Christ Petersen, 92, longtime resident of Austin, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Sterling House in Owatonna.
Herb was born April 22, 1918, in Jackson, Minn. to Jens and Elizabeth (DeTienne) Petersen. He grew up  in the New Richmond, Wis. area. He served stateside during WWII. He married Bernadean (Steinbarger) Kuether on June 7, 1944, in Stillwater and they lived in St. Paul before moving to Austin. 
Herb worked for the Austin Public Schools for more than 35 years. His real passion was doing lighting on the stage. He had the opportunity to meet many famous people and worked extensively with the Miss Austin and Miss Minnesota pageants. Herb and Bernie enjoyed years of wintering in Mission, Texas. Herb also enjoyed camping, fishing, car rides and connecting with Austin High School alumni.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadean; his parents, Jens and Elizabeth; a sister, Evelyn, and a brother, Melvin.
He is survived by his sons, Danny (Dorothy) Petersen of Owatonna and Edwin Kuether of Woodbury; five grandchildren, Teri (Patrick) Steckelberg and children Spencer, Logan and Lainey; Melissa Petersen and children Olivia and Ethan; Jody Kuether and daughter, Chelsea; Camy (Randy) Dusich; Darcy (Scott) Oleson and, daughter Allison.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Worlein Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Stephen DeFor officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour prior to the service. Interment is in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
