ST. PAUL — Grand Meadow/LeRoy/Ostrander/Southland freshman Danielle Hanson missed the Class ‘A’ state track and field finals by one-one hundredths of a second at the preliminaries in Hamline University Friday.

Hanson finished with a time of 46.62 seconds, which was .4 seconds faster than her seed time, but she missed the cut.

Hanson was still satisfied with how she did, compared to last year at state.

“I did way better than last year. I was more relaxed,” she said. “I noticed the other runners usually sprint the first part to the last and they try their hardest through the entire race.”

GMLOS senior Jeff Schlichter took eighth in the triple jump.

Schlichter’s first jump of the day was his longest at 42 feet, 3.5 inches in the prelims, but he managed just a 41-11 and two scratches in the finals.
