Edward Schroeder

Edward Paul Schroeder, 81, of Austin, died at his home Sunday evening, May 30, 2010, after a long illness.  He was born Oct. 18, 1928 to John and Louise (Milder) Schroeder in Jackson County, located in eastern Iowa.  After attending school in Jackson County, Ed farmed and worked in construction. He married Mary O’Connor on March 2, 1954 in Clinton, Iowa. Ed served in the National Guard. Ed and Mary moved to the Austin area in 1967. A hard worker, Ed was employed in the construction industry for several years. They moved from the farm into Austin in 2004. A member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, Ed enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. They enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Schroeder of Austin; two daughters, Michelle O’Connor of Austin and Diane (Thomas) Lenway of Rose Creek; two sons, Donald (Jackie) Schroeder of LaCrescent and Daniel (Rhonda) Schroeder of Rockland, Wis.; 12 grandchildren, Ryan (Mary) and Nicole Lansing, Matthew (Molly) Schroeder, Jenna and Megan Schroeder; Kelly, Isaac, Nathan (Tammy) and Michael Schroeder; Sarah (Josh Fischer), Jordan and Dominique Lenway; one great-grandchild; brothers, William Schroeder of Clinton, Iowa; sisters, Laura Turner, Minnie Meyer, Vera Migawa, Maleta Bott, Alberta Mommsen, Maxeine Kuehl, Laura Sullivan, all of Clinton, Iowa, Clara Hull of Bullhead City, Ariz., Janet (Gerald) Smith of Thompson, Ill.; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronald, in 1970; three brothers, John, LeRoy, Henry and an infant brother.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 4, 2010, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday at Worlein Funeral Home of Austin and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery, Austin.  Casket bearers are Ryan Lansing, Matthew Schoeder, Isaac Schroeder, Nathan Schroeder, Michael Schroeder and Jordan Lenway. 
Memorials are preferred to the family.
