Community band’s season starts this week
The Austin Community Band kicks off their 2010 season titled “Concerts in Bandshell Park” this week.
The first concert will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in, of course, Bandshell Community Park, at Fourth Street and Ninth Place Southwest.
7 p.m., Wednesday, June 9
7 p.m., Wednesday, June 16
7 p.m., Wednesday, June 23
8:30 p.m., Sunday July 4
All concerts take place in Bandshell Park, Fourth Street and Ninth Place Southwest
Sponsored by the city, the Wednesday evening concerts run throughout the month of June and are free to the public.
The band’s director Brian Koser said the concerts will feature a variety of music ranging from classic favorites, to overtures to familiar marches.
The band is comprised of 35 local musicians who rehearse together once a week.
“This is just a neat opportunity for the musicians to perform, and for the citizens of Austin to be outside for an hour or so to enjoy the great weather and listen to a good ol’ fashioned outdoor concert,” Koser said in a news release.
The Austin Community Band holds five concert programs from April through June, leading up to the July 4 Freedom Fest celebration.
Concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on; some picnic tables are available.
