Wolverines rally past Lyle/Pacelli softball team

The Lyle/Pacelli softball team couldn’t get out of the fifth inning in a 15-4 loss to Glenville/Emmons at Todd Park Monday.

The Athletics (0-6 overall) scored twice in the bottom of the fourth off a G/E throwing error and wild pitch to pull within 6-3. But after G/E’s Devin Cooper popped out to start the fifth, the Wolverines (3-7 overall) had eight straight hitters reach base and they finished the frame with nine runs.

“We couldn’t get that second out if our lives depended on it,” L/P head coach Denny Bray said. “We’re a young team and sometimes we look a little immature, but we’re getting better every day.”

The Athletics committed just one error and they struck out just twice, while coming up with four hits. Most of the time the Athletics made contact, it was right at a Wolverine defender.

“We’re showing improvement every game,” Bray said. “We’re making progress and we’re hitting the ball, but they’re going right to them. We’ve got to start hitting the gaps a little more.”

The toughest break for L/P came in the third inning when Haley Meyer doubled and Ashley Hinz walked to start the frame, but Dani Felten struck out and Audrey Ferris hit a line drive right at the G/E shortstop for an inning-ending double play.

G/E set up the 10-run rule in the fifth when Megan Rasmusson knocked in three runs with a two-out double to center field. Rasmusson had five RBIs on the day.

L/P scored in the first inning off a Meyer groundout for an RBI, but it left the bases loaded.
