LETTER: Tourism no basis for an economy
American cities and towns can not build economies on tourism. It’s seasonal. Uncivilized people do not even want to pay taxes on tourism purchases. In a “jobless economy” there just are not enough tourists to go around, and American cities can not compete with foreign cathedrals, temples and castles. Useless sports complexes, countless hotels, restaurants and bars, monster shopping malls, endless upscale housing projects that the working class can not afford and empty new office buildings are only more “amenities” for the corrupt rich.
