Kenneth Oscar Holtan (Kenny), 62, died Tuesday May 18, 2010, at his home in Hayfield, Minn.
Ken was born in Olmsted County on Sept. 1, 1947, to Oscar and Hertha Holtan. He grew up helping his father on the farm, before being employed at Century Plastic and Nelson School Bus Service for twenty years. He was in the Air Force from 1967 to 1969, and did a tour in Vietnam. He married Linda Opsahl on Nov. 10, 1979, and resided in Hayfield.
Ken enjoyed visiting his friends at the Hayfield bowling alley and vacationing during the summers in Oshkosh, Wis. to watch the Air Show. He ate out at Chow’s in Rochester and Godfather’s Pizza in Austin frequently. He enjoyed spending time with his sons and doing yard work. He had a genuine ability to comfort those who were sick or needed to have an ear to listen. He enjoyed visits with his sisters and was fond of past memories.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Linda Holtan; son, Brandon (Veronica), two granddaughters, Phoebe and Dylan Holtan, Rochester; son, Korey (Michelle) Holtan, Rochester; sisters, Lucille (Rich) Bernard, Florida; Eileen Holtan,Minneapolis; mother-in-law, Bonnie (Dale) Wiste, Austin; father-in-law,  Elmer (Tove) Opsahl, Rochester; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Greg) Hulst, Waltham;  Pam (Larry) McAlister, Austin; Cheryl (Jim) Jensen, Austin; Carrie (Harry) Kosuge, Glenville; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The  memorial service will 11 a.m. Friday May 21, 2010, at Crane Chapel Church, 1111 Ninth St. NE Austin, MN. Letters of sympathy can be mailed to the family at 604 22nd Ave. NW Austin, MN 55912. Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Hayfield assisted with arrangements.
