The Austin Blue Sox struck early in an 8-4 amateur baseball win at Chaseberg/Coon Valley, Wis. Sunday.

Blue Sox ace pitcher Joe Huffman allowed two runs in the bottom of the first but he responded by belting a two-run home run to tie it in the top of the second. The Blue Sox (4-1 overall) scored one more run in the second to go up for good at 3-2 and they led 5-2 after three innings.

Mark Harber pitched two scoreless innings in relief for Austin and outfielders Nate Johnson and Andy Swank played in their first game of the season.

“We had a rejuvenated lineup today with some guys playing for the first time this year,” Blue Sox manager Josh Kunze said.

Huffman picked up the win in five innings of work and Duell Higbe pitched two innings in relief.
