The Riverland baseball team was eliminated from the Junior College World Series when it lost to Tyler Junior College 6-2 Sunday in Tyler, Texas.

“We just didn’t hit today and their pitcher hit his spots and threw strikes,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said. “We hit a lot of lazy fly balls and easy ground balls. They’re a good team and we played well.”

The Blue Devils (36-12 overall) fell behind 3-0 after five innings and they trailed 6-0 before scoring twice in the eighth inning.

“There were some controversial calls and they didn’t go in our favor,” Koenigs said.

RCC opened the national tournament with a 9-5 loss to Manchester 9-5 Saturday.

The Blue Devils stranded 18 runners on base and left the bases loaded five times in that loss.

“We didn’t have a real good ptiching performance in that one and you’re not going to win many games by stranding 18 guys on base,” Koenigs said.
