The Lyle/Pacelli baseball team showed its good side and it also showed what it needs to work on when it split an SEC-doubleheader at Riverland Saturday.

The Athletics (3-9 overall) beat Houston 13-8 and lost to Mabel/Canton 12-0 in five innings.

Michael Lonergan pitched the win against the Hurricanes as he struck out 13. L/P jumped out to a 10-0 lead after five innings, but Houston scored six in the fifth to avoid the 10-run rule.

“It was a great game and we were into it,” L/P head coach Reid Olson said. “(Lonergan) was real good on the mound.”

L/P was held to four hits and it committed five errors in the loss to M/C.

“We had an opportunity to catch eight fly balls and we only caught two of them,” Olson said. “We can’t do that and we showed our youth in this one.”
