The Blue Devils baseball team racked up 15 extra base hits in a two-game sweep over Minnesota West (1-15 overall, 1-5 MCAC South) in Worthington Wednesday.

Riverland Community College (25-3 overall, 4-0 MCAC South) won by scores of 18-1 and 16-4.

Rapid City native Brad Winkelman erupted from a hitting slump by blasting three homers and nine RBIs in the nightcap. He hit a grand slam in the first inning, a three-run homer in the second and a solo shot in the fourth before grounding out for an RBI in his last at-bat.

“It was a great game for Brad,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said. “He’s been struggling for awhile but I know he has power and we knew he’d snap out of it.”

In the first game RCC, which is ranked No. 7 in Division III, drew 10 walks to go along with three home runs.

“We did a good job of waiting for them to throw strikes and when they did throw strikes, we hit hard,” Koenigs said.

Brian Voigt hit his 10th homer in the opener, while Kyal Williams and Reece Steckler also went deep.

Voigt and Williams picked up their sixth wins on the mound and both should be available to pitch again this weekend, when RCC plays four divisional games.
