League of Women Voters to host brunch to honor historic women

As part of a continued celebration for 90 years of women’s suffrage, the League of Women Voters Austin Area is hosting a champagne brunch with historical figures next weekend.

Suffragist Inez Mulholland, Carrie Chapman Catt, Lucy Stone, Alice Paul — portrayed by LWV members — will host a the champagne brunch March 27 at the Hormel Historic Home from 10 to 11 a.m.

Alice Paul — played by LWV voter service chairwoman Kristine Allas — will talk about her campaign for women’s suffrage that contributed to the passing of the 19th Amendment.

Historic women of Mower County and Austin will also be honored at the event.

There will also be a fashion show displaying different fashions through the decades, and a brunch will be prepared by Hy-Vee.

Tickets are $15, and they are available at the Hardy Geranium, Superfresh Produce, Hormel Historic Home and Mower County Historical Society.
