Still in need of a Valentine’s gift? Purchase a weekend getaway, tickets to see the Twins in their new stadium, or — for the practical Valentine — two sides of split beef or 100 gallons of gasoline. It’s all available at auction Saturday.

The annual Sacred Heart Winter Banquet and Silent Auction are this Saturday at the school in Adams. The silent auction is held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with free admission. A live auction, social hour and dinner take place at 6 p.m. Tickets for the evening banquet are $45.

The Catholic school raised $59,000 with last year’s auctions and banquet, and Chris Shaw, Sacred Heart mom and banquet volunteer, said the school hopes the event continues to grow this year.

To that end, more than 300 items will be available during a silent auction in the gym, including popular sports, farm and movie gift baskets designed and filled by Sacred Heart students. Lunch will also be sold as will raffle tickets promising several cash prizes of up to $500.

Though the silent auction continues until 2 p.m., some tables will begin to close at 12:30 p.m., Shaw said.

A limited number of tickets are still available for the evening banquet, which Shaw said is fancier than prom and finer still than some wedding receptions.

“The auditorium is really transformed. It is really done up for the occasion,” Shaw said.

A social hour begins the banquet, and the live auction and raffle follow.

Dick Schwade, auctioneer from Spring Valley, will run the live auction.

More than 30 items on the auction list include a painting created by fifth and sixth-graders, a tool set valued at more than $600, a 32” flat screen TV, a Cardinals autographed football, a whole hog and processing, a Mystic Lake Casino package and a barn quilt block.

Money raised goes to support the school and aid in keeping tuition low, Shaw said.

Sacred Heart holds a bicycle marathon in the fall, but the winter fundraiser is the school’s largest.

Founded in 1903, Sacred Heart has 91 students and is one of the smallest Catholic schools in the Winona Diocese

Tickets for the evening banquet are available at Sacred Heart, 412 W. Main Street, or by calling 582-3120.
