Michael Flanagan

Michael L. Flanagan, 74, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 25, 2010 with family by his side. 
Michael was born April 1, 1935 in Austin. He was raised in Austin and was a proud graduate of Austin High School. Michael graduated from St. Thomas College and then received his Juris Doctor from University of South Dakota School of Law. He was united in marriage to Marguerite Sinnett on June 11, 1960 in St. Paul, Minn. 
Michael enjoyed a long career as partner with the firm Moss & Barnett in Minneapolis. He served as the lobbyist for the Minnesota State Bar Association, the state’s largest association of lawyers, for 33 years. During that time, Michael was the “lawyers’ lawyer” in the legislative arena leading the association’s effort to reform many of the state’s laws. Michael received many awards and recognitions as the MSBA’s lobbyist, cumulating in the receipt of the MSBA President’s Award in 1995 for his outstanding service to the association and lawyers of Minnesota. He retired from his duties at the MSBA in 1999.
Michael is survived by his wife, Marguerite; his children, Brian (Shari) of Eden Prairie, Kathleen (David) Stringfield of Woodbury and Patrick (Amy) of Edina; his five grandchildren, Brianna and Elizabeth Stringfield, Charley, Josie and Julia Flanagan; and a brother, Jim (Kathy) Flanagan of Fresno, Calif. 
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Leonard Flanagan, and his mother-in-law, Agnes Sinnett. 
Services were held in Edina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4550 West 77th Street, Suite 200, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55435. 
Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel of Edina was in charge of arrangements.
