Spam lovers can now follow the latest news and recipes pertaining the canned meat through social networking sites like Twitter.

Hormel Foods Corp. recently created a Twitter account for Spam, and the company resumed writing updates on the page for the overall Hormel brand.

The Twitter account Hormel_SPAM first posted on Jan. 13 and has 43 followers. As of Friday, the account had tweeted 19 times. Tweets include things like announcements, links to recipes, Hormel news and information on the fan club.

“We’re here to share news on behalf of the Hormel SPAM family of products. Follow us for announcements, recipes, fun & games and more!” Hormel_SPAM’s first tweet read.

The Twitter account Hormel_Foods first posted Jan. 21, 2008, but only posted three times before posting again Jan. 25, 2010.

“After a hiatus, we’re back! Exciting things are happening at Hormel Foods, and we can’t wait to talk about them here!”read the first tweet in more than two years.

Hormel_Foods also posted updates about Tuesday’s annual shareholders’ meeting. The account has 77 followers and had tweeted 10 times, as of Friday. Posts focused on news and announcements, and links to a few recipes were also posted.
