Pearl Erie

Pearl L. Erie, 89, of Adams and formerly of LeRoy died Wednesday Jan. 27, 2010 at the Austin Medical center in Austin, where she had been a patient for about one week.
Pearl Lorene Knutson was born May 2, 1920 in Austin, to Severin and Mabel (Rudlong) Knutson. She attended Adams High School, graduating in 1939. On June 28, 1939, she was united in marriage to Norman Erie and together they farmed for 44 years in the LeRoy area. Norman died on Oct. 26, 1983. After her husband’s death she moved to Riverside Apartments in LeRoy. Pearl was an active member of the LeRoy Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday school and vacation bible school. She also enjoyed the WELCA and Circle activities. She always loved flowers, birds and bird houses and anything pertaining to Norway, such as books, pictures and memorabilia. Pearl took many bus trips and especially enjoyed the trip she took to California and the trip to Norway with her granddaughter, Danielle.
She is survived by her children, Marlys (Phillip) Rugg, Dennis (Karen) Erie, both of Rochester, and Janice (John) McDaniel of Washington, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Kevin (Deanna) Rugg, Keith (Kathleen Colleran) Rugg, Karen Ritchie and friend Leroy Steinman, Danielle (Dennis) Mulvihill, Amy (Eric) Thompson, Michelle Kennedy and Catherine (Jamie) Beauchamp; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Pearl is also survived by two siblings, Vernon (Verna) Knutson of Rochester and Florence Thompson of North Charleston, S.C.; and a special friend, Walter Underdahl of Adams.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one great-grandson and 1 brother.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010 at the LeRoy Lutheran Church with the Rev. Elaine Siemsen officiating. Burial will take place in the Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the church in LeRoy one hour prior to the service.
