A defenseman delivered for the Austin girls hockey team in a 3-2 win over Dodge County on the road Tuesday.

Austin junior Alex Larson used a good screen-out from her teammates to fire a shot from the blue line between the goalie’s legs to put the Packers (8-8-1 overall) up 3-2 halfway through the third period.

Austin had led 2-1, but Dodge County’s Kortney Kleber scored a power play goal early in the third period.

The Packers tallied 35 shots on goal, while Audrey DeVries pocketed 26 saves.

“We really played hard and we played three good periods,” Austin head coach Denny Bray said. “You don’t see a lot of three good period games at the high school level but we did it tonight.”

Carley Grunewald scored a pair of goals in the second period for Austin.
