Lawrence Asprey

Lawrence Edward Asprey, 85, of Dodge Center, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010 at his home.
He was born May 10, 1924 in Wasioja Township the son of Perry and Leona (Kirkland) Asprey. Lawrence graduated from West Concord High School. He served in the US Air Force from 1946-1949. On June 25, 1954 he married Mary Burnham in Worthington. The couple made their home in Dodge County, where Lawrence farmed until 1988. Lawrence also maintained roads for Wasioja Township and transported cement trucks. He was active at First Baptist Church in West Concord. He served on the West Concord School Board, the Concord Co-op Board and was the Wasioja Township supervisor for 39 years.
He loved to hunt, fish and spend time at the cabin with his family. Lawrence looked forward to interacting with his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching the birds, deer and turkeys in his backyard and loved listening to music. Lawrence loved harmony in music and it gave him comfort during his final days.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Mary Asprey, of Dodge Center; sons, Craig (Suzanne) Asprey of Rustburg, VA. and Mark (Diane) Asprey of Austin; daughter, Lori (Kevin) Dean of Edgewater, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Annette (Eric) Klang of Brainerd; grandchildren, Heather Miller, Hope (Zach) Lien, Clinton Asprey, Casey Asprey, Holly Asprey, Jake Asprey, Jonathan Asprey, Josiah Klang, Jedediah Klang, Justin Dean, Josie Dean; great-granddaughter, Reagan Miller; sister, Lorraine Larson of Rochester; brother, Haven (Ramona) Asprey of West Concord; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Douglas Asprey; sister, Gertrude Asprey; granddaughter, Christy Asprey.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, West Concord on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. and at Faith Community Church on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Faith Community Church with the Rev. David Breederland officiating. Interment will be in the Concord Cemetery in Concord Township.
Memorials are preferred to Faith Community Church, Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund or to the donor’s choice.
