People thinking about running for public office in Mower County next November now know what their salary would likely be if elected.

The Mower County Board of Commissioners set the minimum salaries for elected offices scheduled for election in 2010.

The minimum salary applies to the first salary step for those positions. By setting the salaries prior to an election year, potential candidates know what their minimum salary would be in 2011 if elected.

“People filing for office know this is the minimum they’d be paid if they’re successful in their election campaign,” said Mower County Coordinator Criag Oscarson.

This would apply to positions with terms scheduled to end in 2011. Positions up for election in 2010 include the 3rd District, 4th District and 5th District seats of the Mower County Board of Commissioners; county attorney; auditor-treasurer; recorder/registrar of titles; and sheriff.

The salary would not apply to an incumbent if he or she sought and won re-election.
