Blaine Jerome Amdahl, 72, of Austin died Saturday morning, Dec. 26, 2009, at his home in Austin.
He was born Dec. 25, 1937, in Spring Grove, Minn., the son of Irvin Wilfred and Olga Odella (Haarstad) Amdahl. The family moved to Austin when Blaine was a child. He received his education in Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1956. On June 20, 1959, he was united in marriage to Patricia Doherty at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. The couple made their home in Albert Lea for a short time before moving back to Austin, where Blaine worked as a salesman for the 7 Up and later the Pepsi bottling companies. He later became a mechanic at the Ford auto dealership in Blooming Prairie, now Krejci Ford, retiring in 1998. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed working on cars, following NASCAR, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.
Blaine is survived by his wife, Pat Amdahl of Austin; four children, Debra Amdahl of Austin, Bradley (Jane) Amdahl of Austin, Scott (Angie) Amdahl of San Juan, Texas and Colleen (Scott) Nelson of Lyle; 11 grandchildren, Angie Phanchan, Tim Amdahl, Sara Amdahl, Tara Amdahl, Marty Amdahl, Brody Amdahl, Jorge Garza, Graciela Amdahl, Andrew Amdahl, Jacob Nelson and Hannah Nelson; four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Nicholas, Matthew and Devin; two brothers, Darrell Amdahl of Austin and Marlin (Ruth) Amdahl of Hudson, Wis.; his mother-in-law, Betty Boysen of Austin and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter in infancy, Barbara; and one brother, Rodney.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jeff Forbes officiating. Interment will follow the service in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 29 at the Worlein Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
