David John Benson, 76, of rural Blooming Prairie, died Sunday morning, Nov. 1, 2009. 

He was born April 3, 1933 to Reuben Erwin and Adrena Elizabeth (Hanf) Benson on the home place in Newry Township, Freeborn County, Minn., where he grew up and attended country school. David entered the Army in 1956. He worked as a hired hand on farms, did cement work for Peter Borgesen and worked on the interstate highway before beginning work as a pipe fitter on pipeline companies in the Midwest. He married Janet Samplawski on June 15, 1968 in Stanley, Wis. They made their home west of Blooming Prairie until July of 1974 when they moved to the Benson home place. David enjoyed gardening, working outside and carpentry.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; two sons, Wayne Benson and Daniel Benson, all of Blooming Prairie; a grandson, Timothy Benson of Grand Meadow; two brothers, Richard (Betty) Benson of Blooming Prairie and Robert (Jane) Benson of Owatonna; one sister, Marcella Ramsey of Blooming Prairie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Adrena Benson; daughter, Nancy Benson; brothers, Gordon and Lawrence Benson; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Janice.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. Interment is at St. Columbanus Cemetery with flag presentation by Blooming Prairie VFW Post 878 and American Legion Post 52 escort.
