An Austin teenager pleaded guilty Friday to felony assault for attacking a woman with a bottle last month.

Gilo Otor Gilo, 18, originally pleaded not guilty to all charges against him, but changed his plea during a pre-trial hearing.

He is scheduled for sentencing Dec. 18.

The charges stem from a Sept. 20 incident at Gilo’s 1004 Second Ave. NW home. At the time, Gilo was out on pre-trial release for an alleged gun incident in Albert Lea.

According to a criminal complaint, the 23-year-old woman was leaving a party when Gilo allegedly began hitting her over the head with a bottle.

She attempted to block her face with her arms, the complaint states, and suffered a deep laceration on her right hand.

The woman also had cuts and swelling on her face, as well as a few scrapes on her knees.

Medical officials at Austin Medical Center said the injuries constituted “substantial bodily harm.”

Police went to Gilo’s home and found broken glass out front.

His sister let officers into the house, where they arrested Gilo at gun-point in an upstairs bedroom.

Gilo said, “I don’t care, I’m already going to prison,” and was taken to AMC for treatment of his own assortment of cuts, the complaint states.

In July, Gilo allegedly pulled a handgun on a 25-year-old man in Albert Lea while a second man beat the victim.

The gun seized from Gilo had its serial number scratched off, and he had no permit to carry it, records show.

Gilo is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and possessing a gun with no serial number, both felonies, in Freeborn County.

He also faces a gross misdemeanor for carrying a gun in public without a permit.

According to his plea agreement in Mower County, sentencing will be concurrent in the two cases, depending on Freeborn County proceedings.
