The Grand Meadow football team went to the passing game at the right time in a 33-29 win over Mabel/Canton in Mabel Friday.
The Superlarks (5-1 overall, 4-1 SEC) trailed 29-14 with 10 minutes left in the third quarter and they answered by shutting out M/C (4-2 overall) the rest of the way through. Caleb Leichtnam hooked up with Michael Gehling for three touchdown passes down the stretch, including a 19-yarder with 1:05 left in the game to put GM on top.
“We did a good job of not panicking in the fourth quarter when we were down,” GM head coach Gary Sloan said. “We had a hard time running the ball on them, so we went to the air.”
Gehling finished with 306 total yards of offense, five touchdowns, and 18 tackles on defense for the Superlarks, who are now in second place in the SEC behind Houston (5-1 overall, 5-0 SEC).
