Local independent writer Dan Urlick will release his second book titled, “Let’s Do This Thing” this month.

“Let’s Do This Thing” is an accumulation of antidotal stories centered on Urlick’s passion for bicycling and the unique adventures he chronicles while peddling his mountain bike around Austin and beyond.

Each of these 50 stories was published by the Austin Daily Herald in Urlick’s Sunday feature column simply titled, “Bike Rides.” “The Bike Rides” column is more than 5 years old. There will be a book release and signing party hosted by Rydjor Bike Shop on Main Street in Austin Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m..

Books will sell for $12 and for every book sold the first night, there will be a $1 donation made toward cancer research to the Hormel Institute in Austin.

To build awareness for the book and the cause, in the 24 hours preceding the release party from noon Wednesday to noon Thursday, Urlick will be riding his bike throughout the Austin area, attempting to log 100 miles in one day, one mile for every story published.

Between 5:15 and 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Urlick is asking the public to join him for the final mile of this epic journey by gathering at the Hormel Institute parking lot to “go the extra mile.”

From the Hormel Institute, the ride will proceed through Austin to Rydjor Bike Shop.

Urlick’s first book is titled “The Ride Begins,” which was released in 2007.

Both books will be available for $12 (new book) and $10 (old book) in Austin at Rydjor Bike Shop, Piggy Blues Bar-B-Que, The Coffee House on Main and in Rose Creek at the Rose Pedelar, or by visiting rydjor.com.
