The polls for the primary school board election are open.
From 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, registered voters can cast their ballots for three seats on the Austin School Board.
The list of eight candidates will be whittled down to the six receiving the most votes. Those six will then face off in the general election Nov. 3.

There are no write-in candidates allowed in the primary, and Lori Volz, director of finance and operations for Austin Public Schools, said as far as turnout goes, she doesn’t quite know what to expect.
“This is the first primary we’ve every had, so we don’t have a reference point,” Volz said. “We do expect a better turn out in the general election.”
In addition to the six candidates in the general election, voters will also cast their ballots for the school’s operating referendum.
