A slow start caught up to the Austin boys soccer team in a 3-1 loss at Rochester Mayo Tuesday night.

The Spartans (7-4-1 overall, 5-1 Big Nine) scored twice in the match’s first 10 minutes to take a commanding lead early.

“When you start the game 10 minutes late things aren’t going to go right,” Austin head coach Jens Levisen said.

The Packers got on the board with 10 minutes left in the first half when Jacob Brehmer connected on a pass from Alex Klock to make it 2-1, but Mayo scored again in the second half to put it away.

“We were ready to go in the second half and we had our opportunities but we didn’t have anything to show for it,” Levisen said.

Austin (7-3 overall, 4-3 Big Nine) had seven shots on goal, but two of them went off the post.
