The Girl Scouts of the USA and The Boy Scouts of America are recruiting members and leaders.

Various Boy Scout troops held successful recruitment events throughout Austin last week, Southern Trails District Executive Paula Nuessmeier said.

“It was tremendous,” she said. “We had many, many Cub Scouts join.”

Nuessmeier hopes to see more Boy Scouts, Venturing Scouts and Police Exploring scouts join soon.

The Boy Scouts are also publicizing their programs at schools and during conferences.

“I think we had so much interest because the boys saw us two or three times in the school year,” Nuessmeier said.

Boys can join the scouts anytime during the year.

Local Girl Scout recruitment is also going well, said Angie Hughson, a Brownie troop leader in Austin. However, the Girl Scouts are in need of leaders for all level of troops to accommodate all of the interested girls.

“It is great to see so much interest from the girls, but we’d like to see some interested adults as well,” Hughson said. The Girl Scouts hope to find more leaders and scouts at a recruitment meeting in the St. Edward’s family room from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Girls, their parents and women who want to be troop leaders are welcome to come.

Hughson said they are also distributing fliers in the schools. At Tuesday’s meeting there will be activities for girls, information about different troops for parents and information for potential leaders.
