Two Hayfield girls basketball players were placed with Minnesota’s elite recently.

Senior guard Jordyn Krekling and senior center Kiley Severson were named among the top 100 players for the upcoming season by the BREAKDOWN 100, which recognizes the top players in the state.

Both players are on the cusp of the 1,000-point scoring mark as Krekling has 868 career points to go along with 389 rebounds and 153 assists. Severson has 960 points and 565 rebounds in her career.

“Kiley is a very strong post player who rebounds very well and loves to play with her back to the basket,” Hayfield head coach Fred Kindschy said. “Jordyn is a great shooter who also has great vision and is able to spot an open teammate.”

Severson was All-State Honorable Mention last year (when she averaged 14 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2.3 steals per contest, while hitting 56 percent of her field goals) and All-HVL her sophomore and junior year. Krekling was All-State Honorable Mention her junior year (when she averaged 13.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 3.1 steals per game while shooting 41.9 percent from the field.)

Both players competed in a skills shoot competetion at Target Center that was conducted by Steve Brown of the Timberwolves. They both played AAU basketball this summer with the Minnesota Fury.

Both players were key cogs to the Hayfield team that went to the state tournament in 2008 and lost to eventual state champ Albany 52-50. Krekling was voted to the All-State Tournament Team that season.

Last season, Hayfield lost to New Richland/H/E/G 36-33 in the Section 2AA title game.
