Mary J. (Smith) Gladding, 84
Mary Jean (Smith) Gladding, 84, of Rochester, Minn., died on Aug. 2, 2009, at Stewartville Care Center in Stewartville, Minn., where she resided since July 15, 2009.
Mary Jean was born May 6, 1925, in Austin, the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Murphy) Smith. She graduated from St. Augustine High School and worked at the Hormel office until her marriage to Russell Gladding on Sept. 25, 1954. They had three sons and resided in Lincoln Park, Mich. They later divorced.
She enjoyed reading, photography and spending time with her family and friends. She moved to Rochester and resided at the Park Towers apartments and then Central Towers for the past several years.
She is survived by two sons, Paul (Margie) Gladding, Newark, Calif., Lance Gladding, Newark; three grandchildren: Paul, Laura and Jennifer; sister, Madelyn, Austin; sister-in-law, Joann Smith, Austin; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel, who died Nov. 27, 1967 in Lincoln Park; and four brothers: Edmund, John, Wayne and Richard Smith.
A memorial service will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, on Friday, Aug. 14, at 10 am. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Austin. Rochester Cremation Services, Rochester, are handling the services.
