It’s all about Rose Creek Fun Days

Brad Lawson was busy Saturday at Rose Creek’s Fun Days. The Kasson resident came for the softball tournament, but also took part in the popular bean-bag tournament, which started about a decade ago.

While bean-bag events have skyrocketed in popularity over the last few years, locals in Rose Creek claim they started the trend in southeastern Minnesota.

“I’m pretty certain we were the first one in the area,” said Dean Bendtsen, president of The Creek Club, which puts on Fun Days. “Now, they’re everywhere.”

As of late afternoon Saturday, Lawson’s team was undefeated, 8-0, while his softball team, “Cardinal Realty” was 1-1.

“We’re here for the softball,” he said. “We’re just doing this to kill time.”

On Saturday evening, the Rose Creek Fire Department hosted its annual Windsor Chop Supper fundraiser, complete with windsor chops (smoked ham), cole slaw, potato salad and rolls.

Linda Jahn sat at a picnic table nearby waiting for dinner to be ready.

A new resident to Rose Creek, Jahn moved to the area from Georgia.

“We’re just being a part of Rose Creek because we’re now a part of Rose Creek,” she said.

Back at the bean bag tournament, another game was drawing to the close, and Pat Fitch didn’t hesitate when asked what the secret to winning was.

“It’s in the wrist,” he said.
