The funeral service for Evelyn Arlene Magnuson, former Hartland resident, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Hartland Synod Lutheran Church, Hartland. The Rev. Dennis Schmidt will officiate. Interment will be in the Hartland Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea and one hour before the service at the church.
Evelyn died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at St. Mark’s Nursing Home in Austin. She was 88 years old.
Evelyn was born in Delavan on Dec. 5, 1920, the daughter of William and Rose Iams. She graduated from the Delavan High School in 1938 and also completed nursing assistant training. She moved to Hartland with her family, where she married Erick Magnuson on July 25, 1941. Evelyn and Erick farmed east of Hartland for most of their married lives and were active members of the Hartland community. In addition to working together with her husband on the farm she had also been a nursing assistant at Good Samaritan Center. She moved to Albert Lea to Senior Tower after Erick’s death, and there was very active in volunteering. She shared her time and talents with Ride Services, Albert Lea Senior Assistance, Rathjen Group Home, Peer Counseling Program, Retired Senior Volunteer Program and helped with the newsletter for RSVP. She spent the last few years of her life in Austin.
She was a member of the Hartland Synod Lutheran Church, where she had served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent, and choir director. Evelyn enjoyed traveling, having visited all the 50 states of the U.S. and well as a trip to Sweden.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Jane (Gerry) Koland, of Roseville; three sons: Joel (Joyce) Magnuson of Austin, Colo., Jon (Cheryl) Magnuson, Corona Del Mar, Calif., and Jay Magnuson of Austin; grandchildren: John (Christine) Magnuson, Grand Junction, Colo., Brad (Lisa) Koland, Roseville, Brian (Amy) Koland, Little Canada, and Scott (Heidi) Koland, St. Paul; great-grandchildren: Stephanie Magnuson, Thomas Joel Magnuson, Shana Koland, Tyler Koland, Sam Koland and Emma Koland; and great-great-grandson, Bradyn Magnuson.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents: William and Rose Iam; her husband, Erick Magnuson; and an infant daughter, Arlene.
