Dorothy E. Benson, 94
Dorothy E. Benson, 94 of Blooming Prairie, died at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie on July 26, 2009.
She was born June 22, 1915 to Clifton and Eva Mae (Robinson) Myers in Volga, Iowa where she grew up and, on Sept. 1, 1938, married Kenneth R. Benson. After their marriage, they moved to Minnesota, making their home in Blooming Prairie, where Dorothy was a member of First Lutheran Church and a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. Kenneth passed away in 1976.
Active in church activities, Dorothy also enjoyed quilting, cooking and spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include six children: Kay (Robert) Noble, Blooming Prairie, Patricia Blake, Carmel, Calif., Joseph (Virginia) Benson, Sauk Rapids, Minn., Donald (Susanne) Benson, Hastings, Minn., Sandra Walker, Minneapolis, Barbara Humburg, Shakopee, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Signe Pelinka, Auburn Hills, Mich., Lou Benson, Blooming Prairie, Ella Benson, Blooming Prairie; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth, and a son-in-law, Steven Humburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 30, 2009 at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with Pastor Heidi Heimgartner officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie and one hour prior to the service at church. Interment is at Blooming Prairie City Cemetery. The family prefers memorials to Prairie Manor or First Lutheran Church or Blooming Prairie Cancer Fund.
