Austin Area Art Center, Oak Park Mall, presents the Members’ Quilt Show featuring the work of Mary Gentle.

The exhibit opens Wednesday, July 29, and shows until Sunday, Aug. 30. A reception will be held at the center Sunday, Aug. 2 from 1 to 4 p.m.; refreshments will be served by Eileen Orlowski. All purchases made that day will be tax free.

Since moving back to Austin, Gentle has been active in the Austin Area Art Center both as a member and director as well as developing, planning and coordinating fundraising events for the organization.

Gentle’s mother quilted, and Gentle herself has sewn since age 8. Even though she still uses her 50-year-old Viking sewing machine, she purchased a new sewing machine in the summer of 2008 that has enabled her to not only build, but also expand her skills in fabric arts.
