Vera Fern (Crabtree) Kime was born December 9, 1916 in Riceville, Iowa to William and Lepha (Harvey) Crabtree. God took her to her Heavenly home on June 17, 2009 while she was at Sacred Heart Care Center.
Vera married Lester Kime on May 20, 1935 is Osage, Iowa. They were together in Austin for 64 years until Lester passed away on June 10, 1999. At that time, Vera went to Grand Meadow Healthcare Center. She went to Sacred Heart Care Center in March of 2000. Vera worked at Hormel Foods in Austin until she retired in 1979. Over the years she enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing cards with their friends. Every Friday night they would go up to the lake. She loved to knit, crochet, read books, and have coffee with friends and family. Vera was a member of First United Methodist Church in Austin. 
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon (Verlin) Eaker, Mechanicsville, Iowa, Carol (Earl) Goetz, Minot, N.D., Lana (Wesley) Johnson, Austin; ten grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Myrtle Reed, Austin.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Mae Cassidy and Leona Crandall; brother, Noel; infant sister, LaVilla and her parents.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Pat Toschak officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the National Diabetes Association. Arrangements by Mayer Funeral Home.
