Richard J. “Dick” Lickteig, 59
Richard John “Dick” Lickteig, 59, of Austin, died on May 29, 2009 at his wife’s home in Otranto, Iowa after a courageous two year battle with ALS.
Dick was born July 21, 1949 in Austin, to Stephen and Esther (Nordland) Lickteig. He grew up in rural Austin, graduated from Pacelli High School, and received his Associate of Arts degree from Austin Community College. Dick farmed with his father in the Austin area; successfully taking over the family farm after his father’s retirement. He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; daughter, Mrs. James Bastyr (Jennifer); three grandchildren, Brynn Elizabeth, Bridget Katherine, James John; brother, Stephen (Gwen) Lickteig, Morristown, Minn.; sisters, Mrs. Steven Haeny (Suzanne), Sauk Centre, Minn., Mrs. Danny (Sandra) Hendrikson, Burnsville, Minn.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 7:30 p.m. wake service on Monday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #91. Memorials are preferred to the ALS Association.
